Status:

Completion Date:

LLN:
VETNET LLN

Description:

VETNET LLN NE & Yorkshire and North West regions funded two studies investigating existing skills and qualifications in the dairy sector and the future requirements for continuing professional development (CPD) / training.

Outcomes:

There is varying opinion of the value of qualifications in the industry, but it is an industry who are constantly expanding their skills and knowledge. There is also vast investment in their time in reading the farming journals and attending agricultural events.  The sample is currently too small to analyse across categories e.g. age, but this may be possible when we have gathered more responses.

The findings have been used by the NFU (national farmers union) in discussions with ministers re training in the agriculture sector.

The report is also being used to as the basis for a wider study to develop work-based courses delivered by vets to a range of livestock farmers.  This initiative is now attracting Regional Development Agency funding in a number of regions.
