Description:

This study examined non-traditional progression routes into HE for the Construction sector, using as many sources of data as possible to illustrate possible learning pathways and progression routes from Level 1 through to Level 7. The data sourced relates to current and planned provision for 2010-11 onwards.

The study focused centrally on Progress South Central's geographical region, with the inclusion of a broader regional area, covering London, the South West and the West Midlands, to illustrate Level 4 to Level 6 provision. It focuses centrally on mapping progression from Level 3 to Level 4, the transition phase between study at school or FE level and HE, but also considers progression at both higher and lower levels.

The report considers the progression opportunities available, the impacts of demographic change, the nature of provision and a review of gaps in provision, and considers the implications for long-term planning.

Outcomes:

The report represents a broad framework of academic and vocational provision across three universities and 15 FE colleges. It includes detailed mapping of every e.g. degree programme available in the region studied, with entry requirements both in terms of qualifications and in terms of UCAS points, and any accreditations associated with the qualification. It considers the implications for longer-term planning and demand for CBE provision, particularly in the light of both the economic recession and the plan to raise the school leaving age to 18.
